The Challenge

Invisible to the Clients Who Needed Them.

Onal Gallant had a real practice with real results. But their website — built years ago by a generalist developer — had accumulated serious technical problems. Duplicate content across practice area pages. Slow page load. No state-specific authority signals. Two top-3 rankings and 890 monthly visitors, while competitors with weaker operations dominated page 1.

Duplicate Content Crisis

Practice area pages across four states used near-identical copy — triggering Google's duplicate content filters and suppressing rankings across every jurisdiction simultaneously.

No Geographic Authority

The site had no state-specific signals. Google had no clear way to associate Onal Gallant with Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, or Delaware individually — so they ranked for none of them.

72% Bounce Rate

Visitors who found the site left almost immediately. Page load was slow. The UX signaled "generic law firm" — not the specialized multi-state expertise the firm actually offered.

The Work

Fixed. Optimized. Ranked. In 5 Months.

01 · Technical

Full Technical SEO Audit & Remediation

Identified and fixed 34 technical issues: duplicate title tags, missing canonical tags, broken internal links, slow image loading, and crawl budget waste on paginated archive pages. Technical health score improved from 61 to 94.

02 · Content

Practice Area Page Refresh

Rewrote and differentiated 8 core practice area pages. Each was given unique keyword targeting, state-specific legal context, and schema markup. Added 4 FAQ sections per page targeting long-tail query variants that buyers actually search.

03 · Authority

State-Specific Citation & Authority Building

Built separate GBP entries for each active state jurisdiction, created state bar association citations, and secured placements in legal directories (Avvo, Justia, Martindale-Hubbell) with consistent NAP for all four states.

04 · Architecture

Internal Linking & Content Silo Restructure

Built a topical content silo connecting practice area pages → state-specific sub-pages → FAQ content. This gave Google clear authority pathways and gave users logical navigation that reduced bounce rate from 72% to 38% in 8 weeks.

The Outcome

"John told us we didn't need a new website — just a smarter one. He was right. We were ready to spend $40,000 on a rebuild that would have delayed everything by 6 months."
— Managing Partner, Onal Gallant Law Firm

37 new client consultations from organic in the first quarter after engagement. Each retained client at this firm represents a minimum of $5,000–$40,000 in legal fees — making a single conversion from SEO multiples of the engagement investment. The site continues to compound authority without ongoing agency fees. The infrastructure is owned, not rented.

Questions About This Engagement

What Law Firm Decision-Makers Ask Before Engaging

Extremely competitive — especially in major metros. Multi-state practices face an additional layer of complexity because Google's algorithm needs clear, distinct geographic authority signals for each jurisdiction. Most law firm sites use near-identical copy across state pages, which triggers duplicate content suppression and tanks rankings everywhere simultaneously. Onal Gallant had exactly this problem — and it was the most recoverable issue we fixed.
In most cases, yes. Onal Gallant was ready to spend $40,000 on a full rebuild. Instead, we fixed 34 technical issues, restructured the content architecture, and differentiated the practice area pages — without touching the CMS or paying a developer for a new site. The 210% traffic growth came from fixing what was broken, not starting from scratch. The audit determines whether your site is fixable or genuinely unsalvageable.
Each state needs its own distinct authority signal set: a separate GBP entry, unique state bar citation, jurisdiction-specific practice area content, and state-specific legal keyword targeting. For Onal Gallant's 4-state footprint (PA, NJ, NY, DE), this meant building 4 parallel local authority profiles while centralizing the domain authority. It's more work — but the rankings in each individual state market are what drive client acquisition.
The bounce rate dropped from 72% to 38% within 8 weeks of the UX and content changes — that's the fastest metric to move. Keyword rankings started moving in weeks 4–6 as technical fixes were indexed. Top-3 positions solidified by month 3–4. The full 14-position result was achieved by the end of month 5. Technical SEO fixes produce results faster than content-only strategies because you're removing suppression rather than building from scratch.
Each retained client at Onal Gallant represents $5,000–$40,000 in legal fees. They generated 37 organic consultations in the first quarter post-engagement — from zero trackable organic consultations before. A single closed case from SEO returns multiples of a month's engagement cost. The site continues compounding authority without ongoing agency fees.
Each state page was built around jurisdiction-specific legal nuances — not just swapped location names. Pennsylvania content covered specific PA court procedures, statutes, and local precedent relevant to each practice area. New Jersey, New York, and Delaware pages did the same. The rule: if you removed the state name, would the content still be meaningfully different? If yes, Google treats it as unique. If no, it triggers duplication suppression. We also staggered the publication of state pages to allow each to be indexed and evaluated individually before the next was published.
A UTM-tagged intake form with a hidden field capturing the first-touch source was implemented across all contact and consultation booking forms. Google Analytics 4 was reconfigured to track form completions as conversion events by traffic source. Call tracking with source attribution was added for phone enquiries. This infrastructure meant every consultation request — form or phone — was tagged to its acquisition channel. Before the engagement, Onal Gallant had no visibility into where clients came from. After, every consultation had a source, and organic went from zero trackable consultations to 37 in quarter one.
