Shopify SEO Services That Work With the Platform, Not Against It.

Shopify SEO services should start from what Shopify already does well and what it won't let you change. I build collection and product pages around how shoppers search, clean up the duplicate URLs and app weight that hold stores back, and plan migrations around Shopify's redirect rules, for Shopify and Shopify Plus stores.

SEO, Design or Development?

Most Shopify Help Is About Building. SEO Is a Different Job.

Look for Shopify help and most of what comes back is design and development: new themes, custom builds, app setup. Those matter. But a store that looks great can still be invisible in search, and a new theme won't change that on its own.

Shopify SEO is about whether Google can find, understand and choose your collection and product pages over everyone else's. Sometimes the fix lives in the theme, and then I work alongside your developer or agency. Sometimes it's structure, content or speed. The first job is knowing which problem you actually have.

What Shopify Decides

What Shopify Handles, and What It Leaves to You.

Fixed URL paths. Products live under /products/ and collections under /collections/, and Shopify won't let you redirect those fixed paths. Your structure has to work inside them.
Duplicate product URLs. A product appears at its own URL and again inside each collection it belongs to. Canonical tags point Google to the main one, but many themes still link to the collection version, so internal links pull the wrong way.
Filters and tags. Collection filters and tag combinations create large numbers of URLs, and Shopify can't redirect URLs with tag filtering. They have to be kept out of the index on purpose.
A robots.txt with a warning label. Shopify says its default robots.txt works for most stores. You can customize it through robots.txt.liquid, but Shopify calls that unsupported and warns that incorrect use can result in loss of all traffic.
Apps add weight. Every app that injects scripts or tracking pixels adds load time to the pages that sell, and uninstalling an app doesn't always remove its code.

Before You Hire Anyone

Shopify SEO You Can Do Yourself First.

  • Write a unique title and meta description for every collection and your best-selling products
  • Replace manufacturer descriptions with your own on the products that matter most
  • Add descriptive alt text and compress large images
  • Remove apps you don't use, then check their code is actually gone
  • Submit your sitemap in Google Search Console and keep an eye on the Pages report
  • Create a URL redirect every time you change a product, collection or page URL

It's time to bring someone in when the catalog runs into the thousands, when you're migrating, when the store is slow and you can't see why, when you sell internationally through Markets, or when traffic dropped and hasn't come back.

Experience

Shopify Stores I've Worked On.

McGrocer is a global Shopify grocery store. I did technical SEO across millions of legacy URLs there. Organic traffic rose more than 50% within 90 days, and sessions rose more than 30% within 72 hours of Core Web Vitals fixes. The McGrocer case study has more.

I've also built and managed a Shopify store with a Webflow front end connected through Smootify, covering product pages, collections, menus, forms and integrations.

Results like McGrocer's depend on the store and where it starts. They aren't a guarantee.

How It Works

How Shopify SEO Services Work.

It starts with a free audit. I look at your collections and products, duplicate and filter URLs, app weight, and what Search Console says Google has indexed, then send back the biggest gaps I can see.

If you go ahead, we agree the order of work. Theme changes go in with your developer or by me, and content drafts come to you for review before they're published.

After launch I report organic revenue by collection and product, alongside indexing and speed, so you can see which changes are paying off.

Pricing

Shopify SEO Services Pricing, Quoted in Writing.

The cost depends on the size of your catalog, your theme and apps, whether you're migrating, and whether you want me to implement changes or hand them to your developer. You get a quote in writing after the free audit, before any work starts. I don't guarantee sales or rankings.

Moving to Shopify? See website migration SEO. On another platform? See ecommerce SEO. For a technical review on its own, see the technical SEO audit service.

Shopify SEO Services: Questions.

Work that makes a Shopify store's collection and product pages easier for Google to find, understand and choose. It covers how collections are organized, product page content, duplicate and filter URLs, app weight and speed, migrations, and tracking that ties organic traffic to revenue. It's separate from theme design, though the two often overlap.
Either can work. What matters is who actually does the work, whether they understand Shopify's limits, and whether they report on revenue rather than rankings alone. I work hands-on on every store, and I work alongside your developer or agency when a fix belongs in the theme.
Yes, for most stores. Shopify handles canonical tags and sitemaps, and with Markets it adds hreflang for international URLs. Its limits are fixed URL paths, duplicate product URLs inside collections and the weight apps add, and all of those can be managed.
Not the fixed paths. Products live under /products/ and collections under /collections/, and Shopify won't let you redirect those fixed paths. You can change the part after the path, and you should create a URL redirect from the old address whenever you do.
Shopify serves each product at its own URL and again inside every collection it belongs to. Canonical tags point Google to the main version, but many themes still link to the collection version, so the theme's product links should point to the canonical URL. Filter and tag URLs need controlling too, because they multiply quickly.
They can. Apps that add scripts or tracking pixels add load time to the pages that sell, and removing an app doesn't always remove its code. An app audit, with leftover code cleaned out and Core Web Vitals checked on product and collection templates, is often one of the fastest wins.
Only with care. Shopify says its default robots.txt works for most stores, that customizing it through robots.txt.liquid is an unsupported customization, and that incorrect use can result in loss of all traffic. I only add rules on top of the defaults, and test them before they go live.
Plan the redirects first. Shopify allows up to 100,000 URL redirects on standard plans and 20,000,000 on Plus, you can only redirect from broken URLs, and you can't redirect fixed Shopify paths or URLs with tag filtering. Every old URL that has traffic or links needs mapping to its new home before launch.
Quite a lot: unique titles and meta descriptions for collections and best-selling products, your own product descriptions, alt text and compressed images, removing unused apps, submitting your sitemap in Search Console, and creating a redirect every time you change a URL. Bring someone in for large catalogs, migrations, speed problems you can't trace, or a traffic drop.
It depends on the size of your catalog, your theme and apps, whether you're migrating, and whether you want me to implement changes or hand them to your developer. I quote in writing after a free audit and before any work starts.
No. Nobody controls Google, and sales depend on your products, pricing and checkout as much as on search. I can promise clear reporting on organic revenue by collection and product, and honest advice about what's realistic for your store.
